outfit recap of 2011

Wow, it has been more than a year since I started this blog and so much happened! I love my post and now going through all the old posts I thought I'd share my favorite outfits from 2011!! I see a lot of black and white but luckily many flashes of color, even neon orange and some bright red!
I am still "finding" my style, I don't think I could define my style apart from just repeating the common blogger sentence "a compilation/eclectic style of vintage pieces, clothes from stores like Zara and H&M and many DIY's...". One rule was always that I had to feel comfortable in it.
Another thing I noticed are the many wintery and autumny (??) outfits, yes it was a great year, but cold...I live in a cold and windy place (Bremen) and even in San Diego I could not escape the cold (the five days we were there it was sooo cold!!!). But now I am the master of layering :)

Just click on the clickclickclick and you see 29 more outfits :)

Which one is your favorite??

family time

Jacket, Asos. Pullover, Vintage. Jeans, Primark. Boots, TJ Maxx. Lipstick Estee Lauder.

I am back!!! I needed some time off and just relax with my family and not be on the laptop the whole time :)

Anyway, last Sunday, after stuffing ourselves with a big nice Christmas dinner and after all this holiday-hanging-around-time, it was time for us to go for a nice long walk in the "cold" (so warm, unbelievable). My outfit was perfect for this: A comfortable but still modern metal style vintage sweater (doesn't show well on the photos, sorry...), a fluffy cute jacket from Asos and my new skinny Jeans from Primark (just perfect).
But the main role played my new boots from TJ Maxx. I never go out of that store without a great find. I become a true shopaholic in TJ Maxx and have to avoid looking through all hangers, or I would go really wild :)
All in all a really comfortable family afternoon outfit, but to brighten it up a little I used my Estee Lauder Lipstick "Beautiful Pink". Do you like it?

Christmas Outfit

Top, Vintage. Skirt, H&M. Ballerinas from my mum.

Just a quick post of my Christmas Eve outfit, the top is a real vintage piece from my boyfriend's grandma, such an amazing piece! I hope you guys had a great time with your family and friends! We celebrated with a huge filling dinner, I made a lentil walnut loaf and vegan gravy because I don't eat meat, but my Dad's goose looked good, he did a great job. After stuffing our faces with this delicious food, the present unwrapping part took place (we even have a word for it in German "Bescherung"). Great success! My boyfriend loved my self-made calendar with paintings and photos. My parents got iPhone gloves, homemade granola and almond butter and a Retap bottle.
I got soooo many presents, I will make an extra post with that, haha, so spoiled :)

I wanted to post now quickly, because we are going to Nuremberg tomorrow!!! YAY! Any recommendations on what to visit or on vegetarian restaurants?

Merry Christmas!

Bra, Sonia Rykiel for H&M. Pants, H&M.

I wish you a wonderful Christmas, a happy holidays with your friends and family and lots of love!
Thank you for reading this blog, and I don't say it often enough: I have the best readers!! xoxo

Vegefarm

Blouse, vintage. Shorts, Mango.

I went to a veggie restaurant the other day with mainly vegan dishes with actually fake meat. It is made out of Tofu and/or Seitan and you will read stuff like "Shrimps", "Duck" and "Chicken" on the menu! I know, I have some Bremen readers, you should really check it out, the link is here and it is called Vegefarm. I was skeptical at first, because I don't like the idea of faking meat, but the food, the place and the service convinced me to go back :)
I had a rose and date tea, tempura and the Duck Ginseng and my boyfriend had a curry with tofu and banana. His was more delicious, yum yum! You see the food pics after the jump!

I was wearing my black blouse that functions as a dress, too. I bought it in a vintage store in San Francisco. I love finds like these!

San Francisco Recap Part II

Pants, Mango. Dress, American Apparel. Top and Choker, Urban Outfitters. Necklace, vintage. Bag, vintage. Shoes, Converse. Glasses, H&M.

Due to no snow and relatively warm weather I am not really feeling the Christmas mood. I guess I have to start listening to Christmas songs all day to change that. Anyway, because of that I thought I show you another San Francisco Recap :)
These photos from San Francisco are not only shot in one part of the town. They are shot in The Mission, Haight-Ashbury, Berkley and at some weird train station outside Berkley (funny face photo) where we went to a mall to try to find a decent book store (do you guys not have book stores in San Francisco? I mean like big ones with every choice, not even locals could help me).
Shopping in Haight street is great, as well as in the mission! I found some great vintage pieces that appeared here and there on my blog already. Gosh, I miss this city, I had a great time, despite the hills :)

December 21, 2011

happy new jeans

Shirt, Lolita. jeans, Primark. Shoes, Nelly. Top, American Apparel. Bag, Asos. Bracelet, DIY. Watch, Dolce and Gabbana.

Why am I dancing around in these pics like a fool? Because I finally found a pair of jeans that actually fits me, no I actually found like 3 different pairs that fit. Normally they are too wide at the legs or too tight at the hips for me. And where did I find them? Primark, how weird... I actually went there just to buy some jeans for some DIY experiments (they are so cheap there, 9 euros) but they turned out to be perfect so I did not dare using some chlorine on them, haha.

One of my illustrations is on another blog again :) Check out Chiara Biasi's blog!

More posts of San Francisco will follow, by the way, don't worry :)

Last minute presents

Do you need some inspiration for last minute handmade presents?
I made some bracelets (tutorials here, here and here), homemade granola (recipe here) and homemade almond butter for my friends and family (recipe here)! Easy to make but with lots of love (scroll down for the photos of the bracelets and the granola).

Do you already have all presents? I will reveal more presents I made after Christmas, I have to keep some secrets :)

On another note, Layo did a little feature of my artwork and posted an interview with me on her blog, check it out here. It made me so happy, all her kind words and the lovely comments on her post! Thank you so much for the support! I have the best readers! <3

driving home for christmas

Coat, vintage. Shoes, Nelly. Bag, Asos. Jeans, Primark.

I am off to Bavaria, where I actually come from. I hope we will have some snow during the holidays. There is nothing better than I nice stroll through the snow after we stuffed our bellies at the christmas dinner! Are you going home for Christmas, too? I am so excited to see my parents, to meet my friends from school, to go shopping and just cook all day :)
Katha, Pauline, Babsi und Micha: ich seh' euch dann dort :)

San Francisco Recap I

Hat, Jessica Simpson. Shirt, Zara. Jacket, AphOrism. Jeans, Etam. Shoes, Jeffrey Campbell. Bag, vintage.

Some shots from our first day in San Francisco when we visited the city last October. It was a bit windy and pretty cold, but this didn't hold us off from exploring city center and some parts around Fisherman's Wharf. Quite a hilly city, and because I am living in the unbelievable flat Bremen since the last 5 years, it was a big change :)
I wore my Jessica Simpson hat I got in New York and as a tourist, I sticked to flats. The Jeffrey Campbell patent loafers were kind of comfy but only with some tricks (I had to use an anti blister stick while I broke them in, I used this). If you scroll down you will also see the most amazing TV's ever, I WANT one!

jenny

Painted with oil pastel.

I saw this photo of Jenny once somewhere on the Internet and I immediately thought, I had to draw it. I changed the color scheme a bit and played around with pink black and white. I wanted to keep it really simple, not too many details that draw the attention from the perfect silhouette of her face! How do you like how it turned out?

Have a great start into the new week! Only a few days until Christmas! I am so excited :)
Bisous,
Mia

Big Sur Recap

Jacket, Aphorism. Shredded Longsleeve, DIY. Shorts, Mango. Shoes, Flip Flop. Backpack, Vintage. Sunglasses, Jeepers Peepers.

I thought during this cold, rainy weather, some posts about last October, when I did a road trip through California, would bring a little bit of sunlight, at least on the computer screens :) I went through the photos the other day and I found so many I haven't posted yet.
I already posted many photos from San Diego and LA, and some beach photos. Next stop was the Big Sur and I was amazed by the landscape of the cliffs and the mountains. We even went hiking! :) We found so many beautiful places and the colors were just gorgeous, I took a gazillion photos! Also we found the perfect beach (scroll down for it), with a waterfall and palm trees, but we were not allowed to go down to it, how mean!! It's like staring at a desert and not being allowed to eat it!

Next up will be some photos from San Francisco!

December 16, 2011

vintage coat

Coat and Sweater, VIntage. Jeans, Primark. Shoes, Bullboxer. Bag, Aldo.

Some days I had the urge to do some vintage shopping, and it turned out pretty well. I got this amazing coat that feels like big heavy blanket on you for 25 euros and the sweater, that is actually a bit shiny and glittery, for 8 euros. Such a bargain, makes me happy :) I will try to get better photos of the sweater another day!
We don't only have a typical Christmas market but at the river also a midievel themed magical market, with people talking in a completely different German. I love it, if you don't know yet: I love nights and everything, I read all the books by Rebecca Gable, and my current obsession is the show Merlin (how hot is Arthur?)! So I had a great time at this a little bit different Christmas market :)

December 15, 2011

black on black finally

Jacket, H&M. Leggings, Mango. Boots, Bullboxer. Bag, Vintage. Sunglasses, Jeepers Peepers.

Wow, finally I found back to black again! Somehow I managed to wear many different colors lately, and I liked it. However black on black is just the best combination, why? Because with only black you can combine so many different materials and shapes and it still looks good. I paired plack plastic sunglasses with a coat that is half furry and half leather (all faux), leather optic leggings and rough leather boots. The clutch was just a leftover from the party the night before and I had no other bag at my boyfriends place.

December 14, 2011

winter whites

Jacket, Micamade. Bag, Asos. Dress, American Apparel. Shoes, TK Maxx. Vest, Primark. Scarf, Vila. Watch, Dolce and Gabbana. Bracelet, DIY.

This jacket has such a great cut that I just don't get it, haha! I can't get enough of the details on the back and on the sleeves! And I put my precious jacket off for you guys, yes just for you, so you can enjoy the rest of my outfit. The dress from American Apparel is perfect for winter, warm but not bulky. The vest is a new bargain from Primark but it sheds all over the place, couldn't wear it longer than some hours, my black vest was covered with white fuzzles by then, it looked ridiculous. I still find the vest cute, just don't know when I will wear it again :)

December 13, 2011

arm candy

The last week was filled with rainy days, a good reason to stay in and do some of the DIY's I always wanted to do. I tried to do a Dannijo and Proenza Schouler bracelet lookalike and a hex nut bracelet. They turned out pretty well for my first try :) but check it out after the jump!

December 12, 2011

going out

Blazer, H&M. Bag, vintage. Dress, Mink Pink. Shoes, Franco Sarto

Just a quick snap from Friday's outfit, Vanilla wanted to see it :) So here it is, sexy short metallic dress I got on Sale from Mink Pink. I wanted to wear nylon tights to our team's advent party (I play Lacrosse), not these thick ones, but it was windy and raining and I was not going to the party by cab, I had to walk for quite a bit...sorry, can't always bleed for fashion :)

Hope you had a great fun weekend!!! This time of the year is just filled with so many parties, dinners and meetings on the Christmas market, it could go on for 3 more month if it were up to me!

December 11, 2011

rainy and cold

Coat, Etam. Pants, H&M. Boots, Bullboxer. Hat, Jessica Simpson. Top, Zara. Kimono cardigan, Sonia Rykiel for H&M. Bag, Asos.

The weather is actually not as bad as the title describes it, but I still could use more sunshine! Maybe even some snow so it feels like Christmas time!
I love these pants I bought at H&M, they are soft, tight but still comfortable and only cost 10 Euros! I love bargains. I combined the bright red pants with all black and as a change from all my hats I chose this Jessica Simpson hat I bought in the States. Makes the outfit instantly more interesting!

What are your plans for today? I am making Dannijo and Proenza Schouler lookalike bracelets, have an advent dinner (again!) tonight and just enjoying having nothing to study or prepare this Sunday!!!

Have a great Sunday!

December 09, 2011

christmas time

Necklace, Vintage. Sweater, Monki.

Just some random photos I took since Christmas time started. Filled with, candles, vegan cheesecake, christmas shopping and lights in the city, sorting memories form last summer, my white and so untraditional Adventskranz (Advent wreath), children's punch and photos from the christmas market!
Seriously, Christmas could be 3 months long for me!

December 08, 2011

last September

Hat, Jessica Simpson. Bag & T-Shirt, American Apparel. Coker, H&M.

Wow, just found this pic from FNO last September in NYC on the Armani Exchange Facebook site! Such a great memory, the event there was great. I wish I was back in NYC right now, especially now during Christmas time. It must be such a magical city right now! Or I am totally naive and it is a nightmare due to the shopping craziness :)

On another note, I passed my last exam yesterday! Yay!!! I was so nervous, but it went really well, I am so relieved and now I can finally really enjoy christmas time.

Bisous,
Mia

I took a magazine advertisment for inspiration, I forgot which one though...
Painted with acrylic paint.

December 05, 2011

new vest

Skirt, American Apparel. Vest, H&M. Bag, Asos. Shoes, Franco Sarto. Scarf, Vila.

I scored this vest two days ago when I walked past by H&m and the store literary sucked me in (I did not want to shop anything that day). I wanted a vest like that for a while and it was only 15 Euros. I just think it is a bit too big, now that I look at the pics, but they didn't have a size smaller that day. Maybe I will return it next week and try to get a smaller one, what do you think? Luckily I kept the tag on just in case :)

December 03, 2011

illustration step by step

I often read on the Internet that people struggle using oil pastels and that they don't like it and they are not able to create fine detailed illustrations. However I LOVE this technique, it's my favorite right now and it is so easy to use many different colors and to mix them on the paper. So as I mentioned in a previous post, I want to lead you trough my process of creating an illustration. It is not really a tutorial, I am no art teacher or great expert or anything, I am more of an autodidact, but I will share some ideas and tips!

After the jump you will find all the steps! Hope you enjoy and I am happy to answer any questions!

Gemma Ward II

Again Gemma Ward! Painted with oil pastel.
I am planning a post on how I do my oil pastel illustrations and tipps on how to do oil pastel illustrations, so stay tuned!

Mia
